Before starting his private career, Mr. Barthelmess served honorably as a navigator and craftmaster for a 100-foot vessel for the United States Navy from 1991 to 1997. In recognition of his dedicated service, he was honored with a National Defense Service Medal, a Liberation Medal, a Southeast Asia Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He was also awarded a Navy and Marine Achievement Medal as well as several Military Service Ribbons.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Barthelmess began his career as a franchise manager for seven H&R Block franchise offices and worked with PC, Habif Arogeti, Wynn and Bennett Thrasher. After serving with BDO Seidman, be became a tax senior and office supervisor for JRZ, LLC in 2007. In 2009, he was a tax senior and manager in various seasonal tax positions until taking a role as a finance coordinator for Tybee Vacation Rentals in 2011. He then was a small business team member for KRT of CPAs P.C. in 2013. He continued his career in 2015 as a controller for HOS Management, LLC.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Barthelmess completed coursework in music at the University of Georgia in 1991 and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Georgia State University in 2004. He then attained a degree in secondary accounting from the Keller School of Management in 2008. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified QuickBooks pro-advisor. In recognition of his excellent work, he was featured in All Hands Magazine.
Within the coming years, Mr. Barthelmess plans to retire to spend more time focusing on caring for his family. He was inspired to enter accounting by his mother, who was a tax professional for over 40 years. She encouraged him to pursue the profession and he found he had a knack for the field. Genuinely caring for his clients, he operates with deep knowledge of his craft and is quick to make decisions to ensure he is providing the best tax service for them.
