For the past 15 years, Mr. Segreto has been employed by Elgin Community College in Elgin, Illinois. He joined the institution in 2007 as an academic support tutor. He subsequently moved into several other diverse roles, including as a business division substitute instructor, an office administration technology laboratory assistant, and the emergency services laboratory assistant. In 2019, Mr. Segreto became the emergency services program assistant, a role that encompasses many responsibilities. Among them, he administers real-life driving simulation training to emergency service students and professionals in the industry, including police officers, firefighters, and paramedics. He also manages computer and simulation laboratory practices and procedures.
As an extension of his career, Mr. Segreto frequently speaks as an expert in his field. He has notably spoken before large groups at Elgin Community College as both a presenter and co-presenter and at the Illinois Business Education Association's conference as a co-presenter.
Among Mr. Segreto's most notable accomplishments at Elgin Community College, he was instrumental in converting the institution's fire science and safety degree curriculum so that it aligns with the Fire and Emergency Services in Higher Education (FESHE) program. In doing so, Elgin Community College became a FESHE-recognized college.
Prior to his career history at Elgin Community College, Mr. Segreto worked as a mapping technician for The Sidwell Company in Saint Charles, Illinois, between 1998 and 2004 where he was tasked with preparing accurate and timely digital tax records for many Midwestern counties.
Attributing his professional success to his positive attitude and passion for learning, Mr. Segreto also found a way to persevere and overcome a long battle with epilepsy that spanned 35 years and included two brain surgeries. In fact, Mr. Segreto began speaking publicly about his health battle at Judson University in Elgin in 2019. His speech is titled 'My Journey with Epilepsy: From Diagnosis to Freedom.'
Mr. Segreto earned an Associate of Arts at Elgin Community College in 1994, followed by a Bachelor of Science in applied geography with an emphasis on geographic information systems at Northern Illinois University in 1998. Returning to Elgin Community College, Mr. Segreto received an Associate of Applied Science in accounting in 2006.
As a testament to his devotion to the field, Mr. Segreto is a member of the Illinois Association of Career and Technical Education, the Illinois Business Education Association, the National Business Education Association, and the North Central Business Education Association.
In light of his achievements, Mr. Segreto and his team received a Curriculum Re-Design Award from Elgin Community College in 2019. Mr. Segreto was previously recognized as the Professional of the Year in Education by Strathmore's Who's Who in 2017 and, among other accolades, was honored by Industry Experts Magazine as a Great American Educator in 2015 and a Distinguished Professional in the Field of Education in 2016.
