Drawing on more than 30 years of experience as a Health Services Clinic Administrator, Chicano Community Advocate and Organizer, Leadership Trainer and Consultant, Bilingual Education Instructor and University of Washington Student Counselor, Mr. Ybarra Rodriguez has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Spanish, a Master's Degree in Romance Languages and Literature, and worked for a PhD in Education Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Washington in Seattle. During the course of his academic efforts, he was notably inducted in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Furthermore, as a testament to his selflessness on behalf of his local community, he has received numerous community service awards.
Among his most cherished accomplishments, Mr. Ybarra Rodriguez is particularly proud to have served as the first Mexican-American president of the student body at the University of Texas in EI Paso, and to have finished his bachelor's degree in less than three years. As a health clinic founder, organizer and administrator, of at least seven of the Sea Mar Community Health Centers stretching from Seattle to Marysville to Mt. Vernon to Bellingham to Tacoma to Pasco and to Vancouver, Washington, he helped provide comprehensive health services and housing to a diverse array of multicultural communities, including migrant and seasonal farm workers as well as individuals experiencing homelessness.
He helped establish the initial mental health, medical, dental and social services in Pierce, Whatcom, Skagit, King and Snohomish counties as well as participate in local, state, regional and national health and social services organizations. He has conducted leadership, board development, fundraising, community organizing and advocacy trainings for both refugees, immigrants and native born youth and adults for the last 30 years. As a community organizer and advocate. Mr. Rodriguez helped establish several community-based services organizations such as EI Centro de La Raza, Consejo Counseling and Referral Services and a multicultural group known as the Trusted Advocates.
In accounting for his success, he credits his passion in contributing to the betterment of society through hard work, great educational and economic opportunities, wise counsel from multicultural elders, Bible studies, peer leadership training and the freedom only available in American society. Notably, some of the young men and women he has trained have gone on to become successful professionals in their own right. Looking toward the future, Mr. Ybarra Rodriguez hopes to continue engaging in community service and help more people set up their own small businesses.
