Drawing upon over five decades of professional experience, Dr. Columbres presently serves as a staff anesthesiologist at St. Joseph's Medical Center, where he began in 1976. Prior to entering the field, he earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santo Tomas in 1971. Shortly thereafter, he immigrated to the United States from the Philippines and completed an internship through the Jewish Memorial Hospital in 1974, as well as a residency in anesthesiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in 1976. Additionally, Dr. Columbres is licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York and received a CMS Meaningful Use Stage 1 Certification, which he earned through AllMeds, Inc., in 2014.
To remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Columbres maintains membership with the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Due to his outstanding breadth of knowledge, he was honored with the 25 Years of Service Award from St. Joseph's Medical Center. While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Columbres is especially gratified by the success of his three daughters and one son. One daughter is the chief of anesthesia in Brooklyn, two of his daughters are practicing lawyers and his son is an architect in Oregon.
Though hard work and dedication have brought him far, Dr. Columbres credits his success to his availability, perseverance, tenacity and compassion for his patients. Within the coming years, he intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career. Ultimately, Dr. Columbres, who is currently on medical leave, hopes to continue his career as an anesthesiologist and make further advances in his career.
