For more than 25 years, Ms. Zook has thrived as the principal architect at Barbara Zook Architects. With over four decades of architectural experience, she specializes in the preservation of historic buildings in the State of New Mexico. Currently, Ms. Zook is dedicated to the design of structures using regional materials and based on enduring historic design principals.
Prior to the inception of Barbara Zook Architects, Ms. Zook served tenures as Supervisory Architect for the National Park Service Southwest Region and Acting Regional Historical Architect for the National Capital Region. During this period, she participated in the preservation of numerous historical landmarks including the Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Monument and San Antonio Missions. She co-founded a state architectural conservation laboratory. Ms. Zook also served as Historical Architect for the New Mexico Historic Preservation Division over 11 years and served on the State's Cultural Properties Review Committee and the board of Historic Santa Fe Foundation.
Throughout her career, Ms. Zook has been honored with several accolades on behalf of the National Park Service and the State of New Mexico. She was a founding staff member of Churches: Symbols of Community, later Cornerstones Community Partnerships which works in partnership with communities to restore historic structures, preserve cultural landscapes, encourage traditional building practices and conserve natural resources of the State of New Mexico.
She is extremely proud to have been one of few female recipients of a Bachelor of Architecture cum laude in 1978 from the University of Houston's Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture and Design. In the future, Ms. Zook's goal is to continue assisting clients to realize their architectural goals through Barbara Zook Architects.
