Leveraging more than five decades of excellence in visual art and writing, Ms. Lowell has earned distinction as a successful independent artist. In this capacity, she is a book and graphic designer and visual artist. She also creates custom personalized pet and people portraits and is an accomplished poet, having published "This is the Land of Two Suns" in 2005.
Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Lowell's first artwork was included in the feminist art movement of the 1970s. Her painting "Rediscovery" was included in "The Year of the Woman" at Bronx Museum of the Arts in 1974. She earned the label of NYC feminist social commentary artist as she produced monumental artwork and poetry as a counter statement to what she felt was demeaning aspects of the sexual revolution of the 1970s. In 1980 she was invited to exhibit in the "Artist in Georgia Show 1980" at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. In 2011 she was invited by Judy Chicago to be included in the Elizabeth A. Sackler Feminist Art Base on the Brooklyn Museum website.
Of many awards, Ms. Lowell was honored with a Merit Award at a regional exhibition of the Augusta Art Association in 1985 and received the grand prize from the Diet Dr. Pepper National Art Competition in 1987. She later received honorable mentions from the Decatur Arts Alliance Annual Exhibition in 1991 and the "Dog Days Of Summer (And Cats Too!)" show in 2003. She has been featured in numerous art shows, including in the 40th Annual Juried Exhibition of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists in 2017.
Early in Ms. Lowell's commercial art career, she was an assistant art director for Benton and Bowles (1970). She was promoted to art director in 1971, and created print ads and TV commercials. While in this role, she also began establishing herself as an independent visual artist and writer in 1972, which she continues to the present. She continued her creative career as a graphic designer for Hearst Media Services Connecticut from 2008 to 2012. Since 2018 she has specialized in designing books for genealogy enthusiasts who want to preserve their family history in a book and she continues to paint and write poetry.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Lowell earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in advertising design and visual communications from Pratt Institute in 1967. She was President of the Graphic Artists Guild of Georgia from 1979 to 1981. Additionally, she was a member of the Fairfield County Cultural Alliance and the Ridgefield Guild of Artists prior to relocating to Arizona in 2022.
