As the vice president of the women's and children's service line at OSF Healthcare in Peoria, Illinois, since 2020, Dr. Duffey has been working in conjunction with leadership to improve and integrate care, expand services, recruit clinicians, reduce inequality, and establish and promote sustainable care models that improve safety, quality, and overall service at the facility. An experienced pediatrician with a distinguished medical background, Dr. Duffey is passionate about the mission of the organization. Prior to being elected to serve as the vice president, he spent one year as the medical director of specialty services.
OSF Healthcare is notably an established health care system that specializes in providing lower-cost medical services to patients throughout several different states via state-of-the-art technology and care. The organization presently has 15 acute care facilities and two colleges of nursing.
Beginning his career in pediatrics in 1994, Dr. Duffey was a staff pediatrician for Holland Pediatric Associates in Holland, Michigan. He subsequently became the president of the Lakeshore Physicians Organization in Holland, the president of the Holland Community Physician Hospital Organization. He was recruited to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital to build a pediatric hospitalist program. He served as the division chief/pediatric hospitalist/director of informatics of the Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, the medical director of quality, safety, and clinical innovation for Spectrum Health Medical Group, and, shortly before joining OSF Healthcare, served as the executive vice president and chief medical officer of Peacehealth Medical Group Oregon Network.
Outside of his primary career endeavors in the field, Dr. Duffey taught as an assistant professor of pediatrics and human development in the college of human medicine at Michigan State University from 2008 to 2012. In addition to providing hands-on clinical training to residents and interns, he taught students in acute care pediatrics. Dr. Duffey also lent his expertise as a board director for the Trillium Community Health Plan in Eugene, Oregon, and Spectrum Health Medical Group in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He also served as the president of Principal Health PHO in Holland.
Civically, Dr. Duffey has served on the board of Ele's Place, a nonprofit organization that assists children to heal from the loss of a family member. During an earlier stage of his career, he was involved with Christian Hands in Action in El Paso, Texas, and was a youth counselor for the West Des Moines United Methodist Church.
Dr. Duffey studied at Kalamazoo College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1985. Accepted to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences shortly thereafter, he earned a Doctor of Osteopathy in 1990. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship and residency in pediatrics at Michigan State University, E.W. Sparrow Hospital, in Lansing, as well as certification in patient safety and conversational leadership. Dr. Duffey is board-certified in pediatrics through the American Board of Osteopathic Pediatricians.
A recognized fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, Dr. Duffey is also a member of the American Osteopathic Association. Highlighting his achievements, he was honored with a Community Service Award from the Holland Community Hospital Foundation. Dr. Duffey was also twice recognized as an Outstanding General Educator by the Grand Rapids MERC House Staff and won a Family Practice Award from Des Moines University.
