Dr. Matsumura's commitment towards public benefit included providing essential health care services to patients from underserved communities at West Oakland Health Council in a volunteer capacity for more than 45 years. Between 1971 and 1985, he was appointed as the director of the urgent care unit of the aforementioned Oakland-based medical center.
