Leveraging more than two decades of excellence to his credit in healthcare, Dr. Akinkuoye has earned distinction as a leader in mental health services. In this capacity, he serves as a partner with Collaborative Mental Health Services, Inc. Since 2010, he has focused his efforts on providing consultation to nursing homes on long-term care and mental health apart from clinical practice, helping these facilities handle patients with behavioral issues. Additionally, he has been the president and chief executive officer for Medical Community Psychotherapy LLC since 2018, where he provides psychotherapy and psychopharmacology to clients 10 years and older. He also teaches his clients to practice meditation and conducts mental health assessments and evaluations for work placements, referring patients to other specialists when needed. Dr. George Akinkuoye has also been working as a Clinical Faculty and Preceptor for graduate students from UMass Amherst, UMass Lowell, Regis College, and many other higher institutions since 2010, as a way of giving back to the academic community.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Akinkuoye began his career working in the architecture industry for seven years and worked in the construction industry for another 10 years. After deciding to join the healthcare industry, he became an emergency medical responder with Glavin Regional Center and then with Wrentham Developmental Center. Following this time, he was the MDS coordinator for Resident Care Rehab and Nursing Center from 1992 to 2006. That year, he took a role as an emergency response registered nurse with the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services until 2012. During this time, he was also the chief executive officer for Medicol Inc. from 2008 to 2013. Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have received an Emergency Medical Responder Preferred State Employee Award from Glavin Regional Center in 2009.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Dr. Akinkuoye is also an accomplished musician and music composer. He utilized his creative talents as a composer for memorials for the Boston Marathon Bombings and Veterans Day in his community. He combined his musical talents with his scientific mind by authoring "The Connection Between Music and Sleep Quality: An Integrative Literature Review" in 2015. He also wrote "EXERCISE-A MASTER HEALER: EXERCISING YOUR MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT TOGETHER: Excellent Key to a Super Human State of Higher Consciousness" in 2022. His work was featured in the MetroWest Daily News and the Framingham Tab.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Akinkuoye earned a Bachelor of Science in architecture from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria in 1987. After immigrating to the United States, he attained a Bachelor of Science in construction management from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1993.
Switching his career focus to the healthcare industry, Dr. Akinkuoye earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in psychiatric mental health nursing practice from Regis College in 2010. He subsequently gained a Doctor of Nursing Practice in psychiatric mental health nursing practice from the same institution in 2015 and a Doctor of Philosophy in divinity from the Metaphysical Interfaith Church. Well-qualified in his field, he is a registered nurse, advance practice registered nurse and board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. He also holds a drug addiction treatment licensed with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Additionally, he is a valued member of the Sleep Research Society, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Psychiatric Association, and several other professional organizations.
Within the coming years, Dr. Akinkuoye intends to continue his work in psychiatry, focusing more time on research in sleep studies. He also aims to grow his practice, expanding to other states outside of Massachusetts. He cares deeply about others and is committed to using his skills in healthcare to help spread love and peace in the world.
