Having demonstrated a wealth of proficiency in his chosen field, Dr. Schwartz earned distinction through his work as an obstetrician-gynecologist for more than 35 years, during which time he served as a staff member of several hospital facilities. Prior to his retirement in 1994, he maintained involvement at the Elmbrook Memorial Hospital, the West Allis Memorial Hospital, the Lutheran Hospital of Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Children's Hospital and the Sinai Samaritan Hospital. He also functioned as a visiting staffer at the Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, and a consulting staffer at the St. Joseph's Community Hospital in West Bend, Wisconsin. Throughout the span of his work as a physician, Dr. Schwartz delivered approximately 5,000 babies, including 40 sets of twins.
Outside of his myriad roles as a hospital staffer, Dr. Schwartz availed himself on behalf of students as an educator at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he served as a clinical professor of obstetrics-gynecology from 1968 until 1994. Previously, he held a similar position as a clinical instructor at the Marquette County General Hospital between 1961 and 1968. Likewise acclaimed for his scholarly output, he also contributed several articles to a number of professional journals.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Dr. Schwartz studied at the University of Wisconsin, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1952. Following this accomplishment, he attended the university's medical school, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in 1955. He subsequently undertook an internship at the St. Joseph's Hospital of Marshfield, Wisconsin, from 1955 to 1956, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army as an aviation medical officer from 1956 until 1958, during which time he attained the rank of a captain. Dr. Schwartz concluded his education through a residency in obstetrics-gynecology at the Milwaukee County Hospital between 1958 and 1961.
As a commitment to his field, Dr. Schwartz maintained his affiliation with a number of relevant organizations, including the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists, the Continental Gynecologic Society, the Wisconsin Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Medical Society of Milwaukee County and the State Medical Society of Wisconsin. Furthermore, during his hospital appointments, he served as the chairman of various committees at the Lutheran Hospital of Milwaukee, and as a member of several committees at the West Allis Memorial Hospital.
Noted for his achievements as a medical professional, Dr. Schwartz was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians/Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons. Outside of his primary endeavors, he has volunteered prolifically at his local church and on behalf of his community as a whole.
