She is responsible for hospital supplies and linen inventory, as well as supervision and collaboration with a team of 13 associates. Ms. Fairchild's past professional appointments between 1995 and 2005 include the roles of materials management team lead, at UPMC, and at Jameson Health System, Ms. Fairchild served as the central service supervisor and an operating room technician.
A lengthy military background is central to Ms. Fairchild's professional approach: She proudly served in the United States Army from 1982 to 1994 and retired at the rank of sergeant. While serving, she earned several commendations, including the Kuwait Liberation Medal and the Army Service Ribbon. She was also a two-time recipient of the Army Commendation Medal, a three-time recipient of the Army Achievement Medal and a multiple-time recipient of the National Defense and Meritorious Service Medal. Moreover, in 2019, Ms. Fairchild was inducted into the Lawrence County Career and Technology Center's Hall of Fame—where she completed college coursework in 1982—and has been featured in the Ellwood City Ledger and New Castle News.
One notable career achievement cited by Ms. Fairchild was her opportunity to be the first veteran of the Desert Storm era to serve as commander of the Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars, the largest VFW organization in the nation. Moreover, she currently stands as the first female VFW commander of her post (VFW Post 315), district (District 25) and state. Ms. Fairchild is also immensely gratified to have published her 2017 book, "The Desert Experience," through which she narrates details about being deployed for Operation Shield–Desert Storm.
Ms. Fairchild honors her late husband's example of courage and willpower as instrumental in her productivity and stellar record of achievement.
