Dr. Dorothy Walker Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Community Development and Economic Development

Bridge Solutions Inc. at the request of the Tribal Chief, Governmental Officials, and Residents of Cameroon shall build the Dorothy M. Walker Technical, Medical, and Business University in Cameroon, West African. This ground-breaking university will become the catalyst for bringing businesses, jobs and other industries to the area that are certain to make it a successful and vibrant community. Cameroonians will be able to get jobs building hundreds of student housing units, hotels, shopping malls, restaurants, solar power charging stations for homes, other building structures as well as the manufacture and installation of solar powered charging stations for electric vehicles. Dr. Walker is the developer of a U.S. patent for solar panels that encompass water retention towers. This unique invention placing the towers on existing parking lots addresses climate change on both ends of the spectrum, solar energy and water conservation.

Alongside her work with Bridge Solutions, Dr. Walker is the Executive Director of We Help Communities '2' Develop Corporation (We Help), a Department of Housing and Urban Development-approved housing counseling agency. We Help is also an approved Community Development Entity within the Department of the U. S. Treasury. While her career has been filled with many standout moments, Dr. Walker takes the most pride in empowering others through entrepreneurship, job opportunities and helping people achieve their part of the American Dream "homeownership".

The cornerstone of her success lay in being a child of God but helping people may be her legacy passed down from her mother, Myrtle Mae Walker, who was the first social worker in their small community. One memorable highlight at We Help was witnessing an elderly couple's joy when they bought their first home after being lifelong tenants in a family with generations of tenants. "Being able to help others in any way I can," she says, "has been the greatest achievement of my career." Due to her outstanding body of work, We Help received a national award for its success in helping home owners retain their homes during the mortgage crisis of 2008. We Help won a National Award for the outstanding work they did during the housing crisis. "Our name says it all, we are, what we do", says Dr. Walker, "We Help".

An expert in her field and the first African American woman to establish a law office in Belle Glade, Dr. Walker earned her JD from the University of Miami's School of Law. Previously, she attended Florida Atlantic University, where she was the first female president of the school's student government association and managed a budget which was over a million dollars of student activity fees. Over the years, she continued her work in service to her community as Belle Glade's youngest City Commissioner at the age of 24, and as the first female and only the second African American to serve on the City Council. Similarly, Dr. Walker served as president of the Community Land Trust of Palm Beach County as a parliamentarian for Glades Interagency Network. Dr. Dorothy Mae Walker also is a veteran of the United State armed services.

Driven to remain abreast of industry changes, Dr. Walker aligns herself with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Delta Gamma Sorority and the Sierra Club Florida. In the next five to ten years, Dr. Walker aims to live in the United States and Africa so she can oversee various economic and community development projects on both continents.
