LAKE CHARLES, LA, December 09, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shuming Bai, PhD, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Having accrued more than two decades of valuable expertise in her chosen field, Dr. Bai has earned distinction as a professor and the dean of the College of Business at McNeese State University since 2021. In this capacity, she is responsible for all operations, programs and personnel employed by the college. On an external basis, she collaborates with the College's Advisory Board to secure their support and engagement in the college's curriculum, scholarships internships, and placements. Additionally, she works diligently to build rapport with both her colleagues and student body, as well as the community at large. Recently Dr. Bai created a Certificate in Liquefied Natural Gas Business program, the first of its kind in the State of Louisiana and the nation.
Previously, Dr. Bai served as the Associate Dean of the College of Business and Professor of Finance at Eastern Washington University, where she was charged with securing accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business and leading graduate-level programs from 2019 until 2021. Other roles to her credit have included her work at the University of Texas Permian Basin as the endowed Jack Ladd Fellow in Business from 2016 to 2019. She served as an inaugural Coordinator for the Energy Business program which she developed from scratch, the chairperson of graduate business studies and an Associate Professor of Finance between 2013 and 2019.
Outside of her primary endeavors, Dr. Bai taught graduate-level courses in business administration in Beijing and Shenzhen, China, in 2013 and 2014. Likewise, she is a former board director of the Southwestern Finance Association, a former treasurer for MDSCA, and a former member of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Scholarships and Fellowships Grant panel. Presently, she serves on the board of directors for the Chamber Southwest Louisiana Economic Development Alliance.

Well-regarded for her scholarly contributions to the field, she sits on the editorial board of both the International Journal of Electronic Finance and the International Journal of Revenue Management, and has contributed to published articles via such publications as the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions and Money, the North American Journal of Economics and Finance, the International Journal of Revenue Management, and the International Journal of Accounting and Information Management, among others.
Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Bai studied in China, where she attained a bachelor's degree in English Languages and Literatures. Following this accomplishment, she went on to attend the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, from which she earned a Master of Arts in English, a Master of Business Administration and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance.
Among her manifold accomplishments, Dr. Bai is particularly proud to have spearheaded two certificate programs at both McNeese State University and UTPB – at the former, she proposed a Certificate in LNG Business, in which she developed and lunched Natural Gas and LNG finance, which has given Louisianan students a considerable competitive edge in their field, and at the latter she developed an Energy Business program for all business majors, which grew into a major credential and sought-after program by the energy industry. To commemorate her efforts, she has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including a $125,000 financial literacy education grant by AccessLex Institute which she implemented to minority freshmen at McNeese State University from 2021 to 2023, and several awards from UTPB, such as the La Mancha Society Golden Windmill Award, an Outstanding Research Award and an Outstanding Teaching Award.
In accounting for her success, Dr. Bai credits her intrinsic passion for education and enthusiasm for helping students succeed. Looking toward the future, she aspires to continue in her role as dean of the College of Business at McNeese State University, and hopes to raise its overall profile as a significant influence in the region, as well as maintain the relevance of its curricula.
