Drawing on more than 30 years of experience as a registered nurse and health care executive, Dr. Brandos is recognized for exceptional leadership as chief nursing officer and vice president of patient care services at Newport Hospital. To her role, she brings expertise in nursing leadership, financial stewardship, quality and safety, as well as exemplary patient care. Her responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations for the hospital's departments of inpatient and ambulatory care nursing, respiratory therapy, medical imaging, laboratory, wound center, and the cancer and spine institutes. Of her many professional accomplishments, Dr. Brandos is especially proud of achieving Magnet Recognition re- designation for Newport Hospital for the fourth time, the highest national honor for nursing excellence, requiring the hospital to meet compliance with rigorous standards for nursing excellence. Earlier in her career, she worked for 18 years at Morton Hospital and Medical Center, where she climbed the ranks from nursing assistant, registered nurse, director of performance improvement, risk manager to vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Brandos enjoys traveling and walking. She is married with two children: her daughter is a registered nurse and nurse practitioner, and her son followed in his father's footsteps as a police officer. Her three sisters are also nurses, practicing in Ireland and England. As a commitment to her field, Dr. Brandos is president of the Rhode Island chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives and president-elect for the Organization of Nurse Leaders for MA, RI, NH, CT and VT.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Brandos is excited to continue delivering exceptional health care and promoting innovation in nursing practice; this she will accomplish by working with health care providers and clinicians nationally and internationally to promote healthy living, preventative medicine, and ensuring patient access to health care. Developing the next generation of nurses is also a priority to Dr. Brandos, and she looks forward to continuing her work speaking at colleges and high schools to recruit talented young people into the field.
