After accumulating more than 30 years of expertise in the health care sector, Ms. Farris retired from nursing in 1994 as a registered nurse specializing in emergency room care. Nearly a decade later, she joined the Jewish War Veterans of the USA (JWV) as a national chaplain for the organization in 2003. Recognized as the first female to serve as a chaplain for the JWV, Ms. Farris has also been affiliated with the Jewish War Veteran Newspaper where she has contributed numerous articles.
Serving as the Jewish voice for veterans and military members, the JWV is recognized as a nonprofit organization that offers annual meetings, educative seminars, interesting workshops, entertainment, tours, and banquets for members, as well as various programs and resources from the Veteran's Administration. The organization is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Farris began her distinguished career as a nurse aide in 1963. Rising through the ranks, she subsequently became a licensed vocational nurse in 1969 and a registered nurse in 1985.
As a retired U.S. veteran, Ms. Farris remains active as a member of the Disabled American Veterans, her local American Legion, and the JWV. Ms. Farris notably served her country in the U.S. Air Force between 1963 to 1965.
Ms. Farris discovered by the time she was just two years old that she wanted to work in the medical field in some capacity. After high school and her commitments in the military, she prepared for her career in the health care field by studying at Trinity Valley Community College. After achieving an Associate of Science in 1984, Ms. Farris also earned credentials as a registered nurse in 1985.
Highlighting her professional achievements, Ms. Farris was named as the Person of the Year for Jewish War Veterans by the Department of Pennsylvania. She was also honored to receive a Governor's Award from the State of Pennsylvania. Ms. Farris attributes her success to her steadfastness to keep going even when she was faced with various personal and professional challenges.
