Bickel, FAICP, senior advisor at Econsult Solutions, has been selected for a feature in the Ninth Edition of Marquis Millennium Magazine. While in college, Richard G. Bickel took a course in urban geography, which prompted his interest in urban planning. He received a BA in sociology and a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Pittsburgh in 1969 and 1972, respectively, and has since accrued five decades of experience in his field. First serving the Montgomery County Planning Commission from 1971 to 1984, he joined the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC), serving the organization as director of the Strategic Planning Division until 1990. Departing from DVRPC, he served as director of long range planning at Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) before returning to DVRPC in 1998 in various positions, including director of planning – a role he held until his retirement in 2014. Since 2015, he has lent his expertise as a senior advisor at Econsult Solutions.
