John R. Foss was a two-time recipient of a Badge of Hope Award for helping the victims of domestic violence.
WILLIAMS, MN, December 12, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John R. Foss has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Now retired after more than two decades in law enforcement, Mr. Foss recently served as the Grant County Sheriff in Carson, North Dakota, for nearly a decade, until 2022. As the primary public information officer for the county, he was responsible for overseeing contracts throughout three cities within the county. He also frequently collaborated with the ND state bureau of criminal investigations and the federal government. Moreover, Mr. Foss excelled in investigations, specializing mainly in sex crimes against children.
Having begun his career in 1998 as a dispatcher for the city of Myrtle Beach, then a trainer for the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Mr. Foss subsequently Served as the police chief for Carson, North Dakota, and as an investigator deputy for the Grant County Sheriff. He then relocated to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where he garnered experience as a risk management investigator/ Business license inspector. Ultimately, Mr. Foss was recruited back to Grant County where he became an investigator for the county sheriff and before taking the lead role as county sheriff in 2015.
Outside of his primary career objectives, Mr. Foss served three years as a board member of the North Dakota Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Task Force, and continues serving on the board. The goal of the task force is to prevent child sex abuse by developing and implementing a comprehensive statewide approach that includes prevention strategies, support, offender programming, and more.
Mr. Foss was featured in a 2015 documentary called "Welcome to Leith." Directed by Michael Beach Nichols and Christopher K. Walker, the film is about a white supremacist and his effort in trying to take over the city of Leith, North Dakota. The film premiered in January 2015 and was subsequently shown at the Sundance Film Festival and on the PBS television network.
Following in his father's footsteps, a retired New York City detective, Mr. Foss credits his success in civil service to his hard work and perseverance. Among his most notable accomplishments, he was able to obtain confessions on every sex crime he had ever investigated that had merit. Looking toward the future, Mr. Foss aims to become active in the field by participating in consulting work and assisting sex crime victims in their recovery.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Foss notably completed 1,500 credit hours in law enforcement training. To remain aware of developments in his field, Mr. Foss also served as a prominent member of the National Sheriffs' Association.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Foss was a two-time recipient of a Badge of Hope Award for helping the victims of domestic violence in 2003 and 2013. His extensive career was also highlighted in a feature article through Grant County News/GS Publishing just before his retirement.
