With more than four decades of excellence in serving his community, Mr. Laursen has earned distinction as the commissioner for Uintah County, Utah. With his term beginning in 2023, he intends to focus his efforts on overseeing funding for the county, ensuring they have the resources they need to serve the community properly. He has also been a seasonal state park ranger since 1995. Additionally, he serves as a board member for the Utah Community Emergency Response Team and is a valued member of the National Fire Protection Association.
Before starting his private career, Mr. Laursen served honorably as a staff sergeant E-6 for the United States Marine Corps from 1972 to 1977. He served as a recruiter, field artillery, and administrative staff NCO for the Marine Corps, earning promotion to E-6 within two years of his enlistment. He served with a battalion unit of 520 marines and received four meritorious promotions during his service.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Laursen worked as the Chief Deputy for the Uintah County Sheriff's Office from 1976 until his retirement in 2016. During his tenure, he also taught at the Community Emergency Response Team of the City of Utah and was a staff environmentalist for Chevron from 1984 to 1992. He continued his career teaching law enforcement subjects at Colorado Northern Community College and providing instruction at a state-accredited police academy in Utah, which had the highest success rate in the state. He was also an emergency medical technician supervisor from 1997 to 2016.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Laursen completed college coursework at the Utah State University-Regional campuses and through distance education. Well-qualified in his field, he is certified by the Community Emergency Response Team of the State of Utah. Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have been named the Law Enforcement Officer of the Department three times by the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Laursen is now looking forward to serving his community as a commissioner for four years, intending to retire after he completes this term.
