Drawing on over four decades of expertise with studio art production and art education, Mr. Booth, an American Northwest artist, specializes in painting, sculpture and pottery. Since 2020, he and his wife, Janet, have owned the Gallery of Artist, Michael G. Booth, in Hungry Horse, Montana, near Glacier National Park. In his studio, he works in various art forms of painting, sculpture and pottery within the media of acrylic, oil, watercolor, ceramic clay, bronze and cement in a wide range of styles from high realism to abstraction. Prior to this role in Montana, Mr. Booth built a prolific career as an art professor at Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon from 1989 until 2020, while concurrently serving as an adjunct art professor at Eastern Oregon University between 1999 and 2002. In addition to Mr. Booth's regular college art teaching load, in 1990 to 1993, he taught extra painting and sculpture classes to the inmates of Eastern Oregon Correctional institution. There he and the prison students created many monumental sculptures and paintings that were donated and installed in significant public locations throughout the eastern Oregon communities.
Mr. Booth initially began his vocation working as an art teacher in Nevada and Oregon from 1979 until 1981. Within this timeframe, he was also active as an adjunct art professor at Northern Nevada Community College and Utah State University. Between 1982 and 2020, he served as a professional artist and gallery owner in Boise, Idaho, and Pendleton, Oregon, and Hungry Horse, Montana. Mr. Booth was appointed to the role of gallery director and was on the board of directors at the Alliance for the Varied Arts in Logan, Utah, as well as a guest lecturer at various organizations and an art show judge for numerous national and regional art shows in Idaho and Oregon.
In his career related endeavors, Mr. Booth has authored the books of "Glacier National Park, Through the Eyes of Artist, Michael G. Booth" in 2019, "The Paintings of Michael Booth, the Reservation" in 1997, the "Cayuse Indians: The Art of Michael G. Booth" in 1996, the "Watercolor Strategy" in 1996 and "A Sketch of Pendleton" in 1993. Additionally, his artwork has been featured in numerous exhibitions and art shows, including the National Society of Painters in Casein and Acrylic, the Audubon Artists of America, the National Watercolor Society in New York City, the Watercolor USA in Missouri, and the San Diego Watercolor Society in California, among numerous others.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Booth pursued an education at Boise State University in Idaho, where he completed coursework towards a forestry degree. He continued his academic efforts at Utah State University, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1978, and a Master of Fine Arts in 1979.
Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Booth has received numerous awards for his sculpture, and painting at various art shows in Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, Missouri, New York, and California. He is recognized for his landscape depictions of Glacier National Park. He has been included in Who's Who in American Art and Who's Who in America, and featured in such publications as Sunset magazine, the Southwest Art magazine, the Western Horseman magazine, the Paint Horse Journal, the Art of the West Magazine, the International Fine Art Collector magazine, the Ensign and Ruralite, to name a few.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Booth has created life size monumental sculpture groupings for the City of Pendleton in Oregon, and McAlester, Oklahoma, as well as his art contributions to other communities of very large sculptures and paintings that he created for various public locations.
As for Mr. Booth's creative subject matter, he has drawn upon his past experience in the Rocky Mountains, where he was seasonally employed for the U.S. Forest Service, trekking the wilderness back country with horse and mule pack strings, manning fire lookouts, guard stations, and as a fire fighter.
Mr. Booth has created an extensive body of paintings and sculptures in various series including Glacier National Park series, Reservation Indian series, Cayuse Indian series, Wildlife series, Children series, and Horse series.
Mr. Booth has created his own unique and original painting style which he refers to as "Expressionistic-Realism," in which precision academic realism is merged with emotional expressionistic strokes. Along with this creative painting style, the artist paints on multiple attached gallery wrap canvasses, called canvas "Assemblages," which Mr. Booth explains as sculptural painting compositions.
