In this capacity, he has been the chief executive officer for Spirit Art Studio since 1976. Additionally he is an Artist collected by the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, Saint Mary's College Museum of Art Permanent Collection and Campus Collection, the Albright-Kemper Museum, St. Louis creating paintings, lithographs and prints for these collections since 2015.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Maes Gallegos began his career as a chromist for Arlyn C. Petersen Restoration in 1972 and then for DeSoto Workshop in 1982. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting from the California College of the Arts in 1976. He then attained a Master of Fine Arts in painting from San Francisco State University in 1979. In recognition of his excellent work he has won numerous awards throughout his career including Best of Show awards and the High Merit Award for the 1989 Interfaith Forum on Art and Architecture for Religion Competition Exhibition at the Judah L. Magnes Museum in Berkeley, California.
David Maes Gallegos has been drawing and painting since his early youth, having gone through multiple health challenges having 12 surgeries on his right hand from 3 to 12 years of age.
His drawing was encouraged with his left hand. A dedicated person by nature, his hard work throughout his academic career secured the skills needed to become a successful full-time Painter.
