With several years of excellence to her credit in counseling, Ms. Tompkins has found success as a leader in the field of psychological services. In this capacity, she serves as the psychological services director for Agency for Persons with Disabilities. Since 2019, she has focused her efforts on helping prepare people with intellectual disabilities to aid them in attaining success in their respective communities. She works on a multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the residents of the facility, recently incorporating music therapy in the practice. Ms. Tompkins also started a certified Greek educator program with David Kessler. She operates with compassion and kindness, promoting happiness, kindness, peace and love in her work.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Tompkins began her career with an internship for the West Florida Community Care Center, after which she worked with the University of West Florida and the Sunland Center at Marianna. She subsequently served as an operations supervisor for the West Corporation and worked for the Lakeview Center until becoming a clinical counselor for the Children's Home Society of Florida in 2016. During the same year, she began a role as a mental health professional with the Northwest Florida Reception Center Annex.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Tompkins earned an associate degree from Gulf Coast State College and a bachelor's degree from the University of West Florida in 2009. Following this accomplishment, she attained a Master of Arts in psychology from the latter institution in 2013. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the National Counselor Association.
Ms. Tompkins specializes in working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness in an inpatient or residential setting, and seeks to bring a greater awareness regarding mental illness and working against negative stigma surrounding mental health issues. She pursued her career out of an understanding that anyone can be a victim of mental illness, just as anyone can be diagnosed with a physical disease.
She went viral on YouTube when she posted a video of her with artists who got her through the two hardest years of her life after her husband passed away. She is now on YouTube and TikTok and hopes to add advertisements soon.
