Jennifer Yvonne Scruggs Woods, M.Ed, MA (Theology), has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Ms. Woods is recognized for her dedicated career as a social advocate in education

CHATTANOOGA, TN, December 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jennifer Yvonne Scruggs Woods, MEd, MA (Theology), has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With many years of excellence to her credit in education, Ms. Woods has earned distinction as the leader in community activism in Tennessee. As the daughter of parents who were very active in the Nashville branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, she was exposed to social justice causes early on in her life and continued their legacy with her own work within education.

Ms. Woods served as the vice president of the student general assembly while attending Tennessee State University where she began her social activism, helping to organize a civil rights march to keep the university as an African American historical intuition. She worked as a disc jockey at Tennessee State University and earned a bachelor's degree in Communications in 1978. She later attended Trevecca Nazarene University where she earned a Master's of Education (1988), and a Master's of Arts in Theology from Grand Canyon University in 2022. Well qualified in her field, she holds a certification in English and reading and is also a licensed minister.

Outside of her primary career efforts, Ms. Woods has served as a regional chair of the National Education Association's Peace and Justice Caucus, Vice Chair of the Peace and Justice Caucus, Board of Directors of the Tennessee Education Association, and the Education chair of Chattanooga Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

Looking to the future, Ms. Woods intends to pursue further education at Grand Canyon University, and is presently deciding whether to study church leadership or basic theology. Originally intending to become a lawyer, she ultimately decided to concentrate her activism within education after witnessing two students abused by school administrators, with one of the young men being hospitalized. She was moved by her compassion for students and their families, committing her talents and experience in activism to improve conditions for students of color.
