An accomplished listee, Dr. Klotz celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Hailing from years of experience in the field of biotechnology, Dr. Klotz has distinguished himself as a senior science fellow at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing peace and security by promoting an overall reduction of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. In addition to this role, he functions as a member of the Center's Scientists Working Group on Biological and Chemical Weapons Control. Furthermore, Dr. Klotz has contributed to the field as the co-managing director of Bridging BioScience and BioBusiness LLC between 2012 and 2022, a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Weapons from 2010 to 2012, and a member of the Federation of American Scientists Working Group on Biological and Chemical Weapons from 1996 until 2003.

Outside of his work in arms control advocacy, Dr. Klotz has found success in the private sector as a biotechnology executive, having most recently served as the interim chief executive officer of Precision Genetics Inc. Prior to this role, he maintained involvement as a scientific advisor for Codon Inc. and Oncor Inc., a special consultant to Tufts University and a managing partner of the Devonshire Biotechnology Group. Likewise, he earned distinction across the span of several years with BioTechnica International Inc., for which he served as a board director and the vice president of new business development, scientific planning and scientific operations.

In addition to both the private and nonprofit sectors, Dr. Klotz parlayed his vast experience to students in the field of academia. To wit, he has served as an associate professor at Princeton University, and a member of the faculty at Harvard University, for which he worked as an assistant and associate professor on the subject of physical biochemistry.

Known for his scholarly output, Dr. Klotz has contributed over 100 articles to a variety of professional publications. He is also a published author of the books "Beyond the Science: The Business of Drug Development" in 2016, "Breeding Bio Insecurity: How U.S. Biodefense is Exporting Fear, Globalizing Risk, and Making Us All Less Secure" in 2009, which was featured by The Atlantic among its Best Books of 2009, and "The Gene Age: Genetic Engineering and the Next Industrial Revolution" in 1983, which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

Before embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Klotz studied mathematics at Princeton University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. During this time, he drew extensively from the example of Professor Jacques Fresco, a professor with whom he collaborated on several projects. Following this period, Dr. Klotz attended the University of California San Diego, where he received a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1971.

Among his most cherished accomplishments, Dr. Klotz is most proud of the influence he has exerted in the fields of biosecurity and chemical security policy. Likewise, he is gratified that his thesis was well-regarded – as a result, his PhD advisor, Bruno Zimm, recommended him for a position at Harvard University. While there, he notably won a Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar grant to help aid in his research.
