Having retired from the medical field in 2010, Dr. Robson was a respected vascular and transplant surgeon for more than five decades. As an expert in his field, Dr. Robson treated patients suffering from various conditions ranging from abdominal aortic aneurysms and aneurysms to blood clots, claudication, and more.
Working in Grand Rapids, Michigan, his entire career, Dr. Robson held appointments at Corewell Health, was the medical director of vascular ultrasound training at Grand Valley State University, and was also affiliated with the West Michigan Herat Laboratory as the director of vascular ultrasound and the Grand Rapids Vein Clinic as a vascular surgeon. Furthermore, Dr. Robson spent more than 30 years at both Saint Mary's Hospital and Blodgett Memorial Medical Center as a staff vascular surgeon from 1971 to 2002.
In addition to his primary career objectives, Dr. Robson worked in a consulting capacity for the Mary Free Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids from 1971 to 2002. As an extension of his work, Dr. Robson also served on the Cardiovascular Way Center's national advisory board in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2002 and again in 2020.
Civically, Dr. Robson served on the board of trustees for Albion College in Albion, Michigan, and as a trustee at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids. Dr. Robson was also instrumental on the board of directors and the executive committee at The Salvation Army in Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Symphony and as a board member at the University of Michigan Health-West.
After high school, Dr. Robson studied at Albion College where he acquired a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. He was subsequently accepted to the University of Michigan where he achieved a Doctor of Medicine in 1963. Additionally, Dr. Robson served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant commander between 1968 and 1970.
Dr. Robson was elected as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has also served as a member and past president of the Michigan Vascular Society, the Michigan chapter of the American College of Surgeons, and the Governor American College of Surgeons.
Recognized for his accomplishments, Dr. Robson received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids and was named as Teacher of the Year by Blodgett Memorial Medical Center. Among other professional accolades, he received several awards for performing over 500 kidney transplants. For his contributions to the community, Dr. Robson was among 12 physicians to be selected for a Community Service Award by the Michigan State Medical Society in 2010.
