Desiring to help others from a formative age, Dr. Annie Belle Henry sought to enter the field of education. After receiving a Bachelor of Science from Edward Waters College in 1964, she joined the Department of Public Education in Bunnell, Florida, where she served as a secondary school teacher from 1966 to 1968. Following this tenure, she earned a Master of Arts from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in 1969 while simultaneously commencing her role as a teacher of secondary-level social studies and department chairperson for the Government of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas between 1968 and 1983. Shortly thereafter, Dr. Henry returned to the mainland United States and enrolled in Florida State University, from which she received a PhD in 1988.
