At Saddleback College, which serves nearly 26,000 students, Ms. Bergerud supervised the institution's second-largest instructional division with 21 full-time faculty and approximately 291 faculty members. She then gained valuable expertise as vice president of workforce and economic development for DeAnza College, overseeing the direction of their vocational education and technology-based programs.
Drawing on years of experience in learning environments, virtual reality, and educational technology, Ms. Bergerud excels as the owner and chief executive officer of Strategic Alliance Solutions, LLC. Through the company, she provides consulting services for business and educational institutions focusing on analyzing, designing, and developing learning and working solutions. For EON Reality, Inc., a multinational virtual reality and augmented reality software developer, Ms. Bergerud contracted with them to build their exposure to colleges and universities across North America, assisting educators in integrating virtual technologies that change how people learn.
Ms. Bergerud dedicates herself as a volunteer with education-focused organizations such as Tools for Tomorrow. She is a Muse, an education ambassador providing support for the McCallum Theater, helping to attain its highest potential in providing enrichment, entertainment, and education for the community. Marly is a Director on the Board of the World Affairs Council of the Desert. She enjoys working with their student-driven high school program, WorldQuest. As the former President of the Palm Springs Writers Guild, she continues to enjoy the involvement with their professional speakers and its many authors.
Considering her outstanding breadth of knowledge, Ms. Bergerud has authored and co-authored nearly 25 computer-related publications, such as "Word Processing: Concepts and Careers" and "Understanding Microcomputers and Application Software" to "Interactive 3D Application Development," and many more.
While her career has many highlights, she takes the most pride in her son and his many successes and the work she has done bringing technology to the classroom. Ms. Bergerud's memoir, published in December 2022, "My Dance with the Devil," chronicles her battles with abuse, alcoholism, and cancer. She hopes that her words may bring hope to others who have come along a similar path, knowing that they can not only survive but have an incredibly successful, wonderful life.
