For the past few years, Mr. Taggart has been developing a reputation as the strategic communications director for the Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association (PVREA) in Fort Collins, Colorado. Recruited in 2020, he focuses on supporting the organization's marketing efforts as a member-owned electric cooperative, which serves more than 50,000 homes and businesses throughout Larimer, Boulder, and Weld Counties. In addition to collaborating with other energy experts to successfully market renewable generation, strategic electrification, and energy efficiency programs and initiatives, Mr. Taggart manages internal communications across multiple departments and leads communication efforts during severe weather events.
An expert in brand strategy and internal and external communications, Mr. Taggart previously gained knowledge in his field at Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. in Denver between 2017 and 2020, a not-for-profit wholesale electric cooperative that focuses on providing a reliable, affordable and responsible supply of electricity to more than one million consumers throughout Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, and Wyoming. Hired as a communications and marketing coordinator overseeing campaign media buys and coordinating member events, among other responsibilities, Mr. Taggart was subsequently promoted to serve as a marketing communication and brand strategist before being acquired by Poudre Valley REA. Throughout his career, he has had the opportunity to be involved in numerous award-winning campaigns, including several for Tri-State, which garnered significant praise from his peers within the national advertising industry and electric cooperative network.
Aside from his work with PVREA, Mr. Taggart is a freelance writer in the industry. Outside of his career in communications and marketing, he was notably a competitive rugby player during his college years who played for the Grafton Redmen Rugby Union Club, Australian Rugby Union, in Grafton, New South Wales, Australia, in 2014 and subsequently for the Pill Harriers Rugby Club, UK Rugby Union, in Newport, U.K., in 2017. Mr. Taggart remains active in sports as a match secretary for the Boulder Rugby Football Club since 2022. During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Taggart was a front-of-house manager at Springfield Brewing Company through which he had the chance to partake in various community-wide fundraising and promotional events.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Taggart received a Bachelor of Science in public relations with a minor in advertising and promotion with honors from Missouri State University in 2017. Additional educational pursuits to his credit included several internships, including one at the O'Reilly Auto Parts headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, and another at Tasdar Creative. Mr. Taggart plans to soon pursue a master's degree in communications so that he can continue to elevate his professional potential in the field.
Highlighting his professional achievements, Mr. Taggart received two Awards of Excellence for commercial and integrated campaigns in 2020. He was also recognized by PR Daily with an Honorable Mention Award for the PR Campaign of the Year in 2020, received a second Honorable Mention Award for Best Overall Video in 2020, and was honored with the Campaign of the Year Award for digital marketing and social media in 2020. Among other accolades, Mr. Taggart received the Annual Newsletter Award for best overall newsletter content from the Colorado Country Life Magazine in 2022.
