To prepare for his career in medicine, Dr. Yohannes achieved a Doctor of Medicine at Addis Ababa University School of Medicine in Ethiopia in 1989. After making his way to the U.S. in 1995, he completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., between 1996 and 1999 and between 1999 and 2001, respectively. Dr. Yohannes subsequently completed a critical care medicine fellowship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York from 2001 to 2002. He is notably board-certified in pulmonary disease, critical care medicine and sleep medicine and speaks fluent English, Amharic and Tigrinya.
Dr. Yohannes is an elected fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He is also a professional member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
