Mr. Mooney is an independent artist. Born and raised in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York, surrounded by an artistic family of writers, musicians, architects, and roots amidst the vast New York art scene, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Parsons School of Design. He began his freelance career in 1983 and earned valuable industry experience as a sales associate and design specialist with Aaron Brothers from 2002 to 2007. He also held a position in preparatory and security at the Portland Art Museum between 1990 and 2000, and Mr. Mooney was the gallery operator at Gango Editions from 1988 to 1989.
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration and Photography from Parsons School of Design, Mr. Mooney brings exceptional academic credentials to each project. He specializes in hard-edged themes and has completed numerous large-scale portraits; moreover, Mr. Mooney is proud of his bridge artwork and the public exposure he gains from these civic installations.
Mr. Mooney has always remained agile enough to weather the art market and its inherent economic shifts. His work of art is currently displayed at the Rental and Sales Gallery, Portland Art Museum, Portland, Oregon. He also maintains a vital collaborative network through membership with the International Guild of Realism, and the Oil Painters of America, a nonprofit that represents over 3,500 artists with international exposure. Looking to the future, Mr. Mooney aims to join other organizations through which he can share his expertise. He has participated as an artist juror for the Society of Washington Artists and was a member of a selection committee in various art organizations.
