Over the years, Ms. Matthews also expanded upon her professional knowledge by becoming an educator at John Wood Elementary School.
In her current role as an instructional coach with Merrillville School Corporation, Ms. Matthews helps her colleagues improve upon their skills. An expert in her field, she holds a bachelor's degree from Purdue University, which she earned in 2010. While her career has been studded with highlights, she takes the most pride in helping some of her students who needed additional emotional support. Not only did Ms. Matthews help them understand and better regulate their emotions, she enabled them to socialize and communicate with others.
Though hard work and dedication have brought her far in her career, Ms. Matthews credits her success to her relationships with her colleagues. As she says, "Teamwork makes the dream work." She truly believes that teaching cannot be done alone and takes a team of professionals. Within the next five to ten years, Ms. Matthews aims to improve as an instructional coach and develop a program through which she can reach out to other educators as she currently does with colleagues.
