Mr. Valdez is recognized for 40 years of entrepreneurial success as owner of Gambles Valdez Enterprises, a Do It Best hardware and home furnishings retail business. Well known within his community as the longtime public face of the company, Mr. Valdez started as an employee at the store from 1956 to 1983, when it was known as Gamble-Skogmo Inc. During that time, he earned recognitions as Salesman of the Year and Manager of the Year for his success there; he was even awarded a 1970 Pinto as a reward for sales accomplishment. In 1983, he decided to purchase the business, a decision that he still considers to be his most notable professional achievement.
An exceptionally hard worker, Mr. Valdez attributes his success to his perseverance and dedication to his job, as well as the support of his late wife, Adelina Torres Valdez. The couple was married for 63 years before she passed away, and they raised six children together: Valerie Monteverde, Rosemarie Valdez, Maxine Valdez-Ortiz, Maria Elena Valdez, Joseph Valdez and Victor Valdez.
Mr. Valdez graduated high school and served in the U.S. Navy for three years before embarking on a career that would allow him to stay in the community that he loved. All these years later, he remains active in local churches and enjoys hunting, reading and music. Looking toward the future, he is excited to see his business continue to bloom.
