Dr. Sharp possesses more than 20 years of professional experience in marketing and public relations, with particular expertise in the area of rebranding. In his current role as vice president of marketing and communication for Utah Tech University (formerly Dixie State University), he excels in promoting the university and education through many communications strategies. During his tenure at Utah Tech, the institution earned university status, increased enrollment by 50%, added ten new buildings on campus, moved to Division I athletics, added more than 160 academic programs and rebranded its institutional and athletic brand identities. Before stepping into his vice president role, Dr. Sharp served as the university's director of student involvement and leadership and as a professor. Adjacent to his main career path, he is the owner of Sharp Brand Management, a St. George-based public relations and brand management consultancy.

Of Dr. Sharp's many achievements at the university, he is especially proud of his role in successfully rebranding his institution's athletic identity from the Red Storm to the Trailblazers and the institutional name from Dixie State University to Utah Tech University. Although collegiate and athletic rebrands are among the most difficult changes a marketer can achieve, both rebrands have proven successful in every measureable way, including earning a Silver Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America and the Sales and Marketer of the Year Award from Utah Business Magazine. Dr. Sharp has also garnered multiple awards from the MarCom Awards, The National Council for Marketing & Public Relations, the EDMA Awards, the AVA Digital Awards, Telly Awards, Hermes Creative Awards, Communicator Awards and SIA Awards, among others. He is a frequent presenter and consultant regarding rebranding and authored "Blazing a New Trail" for Athletic Management Magazine.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Sharp graduated from Jordan High School in 1997 and enrolled at Southern Utah University on a leadership and communication scholarship. While pursuing a bachelor's degree in communication and business, he worked as a college marketing representative for Richter7 and a public relations and marketing representative for the Walt Disney Company. Upon graduating in 2005, he accepted a role as national sales and marketing director with Living Scriptures. After six years with the company, Dr. Sharp returned to his studies, earning a master's in communication and leadership from Park University in 2011. He went on to obtain a Doctor of Management from Colorado Technical University in 2015 and has since become certified in crisis leadership in higher education by the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education. Outside of work, Dr. Sharp is active with the St. George Chamber of Commerce, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Southern Utah LGBTQ community. He enjoys biking, swimming, running marathons and spending time with his wife, Elizabeth Sharp, a registered nurse, and their five children, who range in age from 4 to 17.
