Between his academic and professional life, he has focused his efforts on preventive cardiology, quality education, and mentorship.
STATEN ISLAND, NY, January 09, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Abdallah M. Saudi, MD, MPH, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leveraging more than three decades of excellence as a physician-cardiologist, educator, and community health promotion director, Dr. Saudi has earned distinction as a leader in his practice as well as community engagement. In this capacity, he has been with SUNY Downstate Medical Center since 2007. In his current capacity as an assistant professor and clinical coordinator, he directs courses related to cardiology, research, and gerontology.
Between his academic and professional life, he has focused his efforts on preventive cardiology, quality education, and mentorship. Additionally, he has been the director of the community health promotion institute since 2009, engaging in activities such as seminars, lectures, and health fairs. Dr. Saudi is also a valued member of the World Heart Federation, the American Heart Association, the American Society for Preventive Cardiology, and the American Public Health Association.
Dr. Saudi's interest in cardiology began when he was in medical school, as he rotated under renowned cardiologists, benefitting from the mentoring and inspiration he received from them. The inspiration continued when he had another opportunity to work with renowned cardiologists during his post graduate training.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Saudi began his career in the early 1990's as an associate physician, medical director, lecturer, educator, and later was a consultant and community liaison for Long Island College Hospital from 2004 until 2012. During this same period, he also chaired the cardiovascular department of Long Island University and was a consulting dean for the cardiovascular program of a local diagnostic institute. Then, in 2012 he became a program director and associate dean for Education Affiliates.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, and after graduating from Rhodes high school in New York City, Dr. Saudi earned his Bachelor degree in social sciences from Stony Brook University where he was a pre-med student. He then attended the New School - Graduate Faculty for a Master in Medical Anthropology, before going for his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Technological University of Santiago, School of Medicine. The last two years of his medical education were at Wayne State University in Michigan where he rotated through various affiliated hospitals.
While facing the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, impacting personal and professional life, Dr. Saudi went on to earn more important and relevant certifications and degrees including an MPH in Global Health from the University of Bridgeport, amid pandemic response efforts at the local community level. His research contributions during the MPH process included a look at the impact of COVID on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), and the complications of the food insecurity problem in New York City. He is a member of the NYC Emergency Management initiative.
But it wasn't just COVID. Throughout his career as well as personal life, Dr. Saudi has been faced with significant challenges, one of which has been a lifetime caring for one member of his family with significant disability, something, he believes, was very humbling and a source of blessing. For Dr. Saudi, these are the challenges that ought to inspire us to practice more compassion and appreciate even the little things we have - in this little time we have – on this little planet. Hence, Dr. Saudi's motto has been the saying of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad: "Two blessings many people are deceived into losing: health and free time."
Dr. Saudi's greatest sources of pleasure have been the students he teaches and mentors, and the people he cares for.
