The inspiration for the company came from her daughter, who was born with skin issues. Doctors treating her newborn daughter suggested steroid creams, but Ms. Mutchler was determined to find a natural solution. She started researching alternatives and found herself formulating effective and safe eczema products and, later, a comprehensive line of face care products.
Seven years after the launch of her company, Ms. Mutchler has grown it from grassroots to globally recognized, a feat she considers her greatest professional accomplishment. Among its accolades, Pickle's Potions has been recognized with seven 2022 Global Makeup Awards and a 2022 Best Small Business of the Year Award from the Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Mutchler attributes her success to her local customers, who have remained supportive of her business from the start, attending events, supporting the company and sharing products with others, as well as the support of her husband, Gary Hunt, who skillfully handles her website and graphic design.
Ms. Mutchler holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from Biola University and a Bachelor of Education in Elementary Education and Teaching from the University of Maine at Augusta. Before founding Pickle's Potions in 2015, she worked as a teacher in Korea and China. She is a certified skin care consultant and member of the Makers Guild of Maine and Business Network International. Ms. Mutchler has certifications in cosmetic science and aromatherapy as well.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Mutchler hopes to grow the business enough to hire full-time production help so she can focus exclusively on research and product formulation. She eventually hopes to transition into a consulting role, focusing on product research.
