In this capacity, she has been a clinical psychologist since 1985, focusing her efforts on clinical psychology, psychoanalysis and cross-cultural studies. Over the course of her career, she has authored numerous works contributing to the field of psychology, including "Therapeutic Relations in the Psychoanalytic Modality" and "Inês de Castro Through Digital and Psychoanalytical Lenses A Bilingual Analysis."
Prior to her current role, Dr. Ferreira began her career as an assistant professor at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in 1974 and then was a visiting professor for Brigham Young University in 1979. She became a clinical psychologist for the Puerto Rican Association for Community Affairs Inc. in 1981 until becoming a clinical assistant professor of psychiatry for the New York University School of Medicine's department of psychiatry in 1985. While in this role, she served as a psychotherapist for Columbia University's university health center from 1997 to 2009. She was also a supervisor of psychotherapy for the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology from 1993 to 2010.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Ferreira earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in philosophy from the Istituto Intemazionale Superiore Sacro Cuore in Tomio, Italy. She then attained a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from the PontificiaUniversidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro. Two years later she received a scholarship from the Brazilian government to obtain a Doctor of Philosophy in the United States in clinical psychology at Brigham Young University, and completed an internship program at New York University, Bellevue Hospital. Before graduating from the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry Psychoanalysis and Psychology in 1985, New York University, Bellevue hospital obtained a waiver from the University in Rio de Janeiro to which she was supposed to return, and she stayed in the United States and received a green card.
Among her professional accomplishments, Dr. Ferreira is proud to have received a Federal Scholarship (CAPES) for the Master Program in Clinical Psychology from the Brazilian government in 1970 and again in 1975 for her Doctor of Philosophy program in the United States. Utilizing her fluency in other languages, including Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese and English, she was engaged in many programs that require her skills as a polyglot at NYU Bellevue Hospital. Additionally, she is a valued member of the American Psychological Association and the William Alanson White Psychoanalytic Society.
