Dr. Lopez is distinguished for more than 20 years of experience as a gastroenterologist. In her current role at the Center for Digestive Health, she works primarily with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients through office visits and procedures in the endoscopy unit. A leader among her peers, Dr. Lopez's high skill level, caring nature, and excellent bedside manner have earned her a place on Orlando Magazine's Best Doctors and Top Doctors lists for multiple years, as well as a Teaching Attendee of the Year recognition during her first year of practice.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dr. Lopez completed her premedical and doctoral degrees at the University of Puerto Rico Medical School. Upon relocating to the United States, she completed a residency in internal medicine at Washington University's Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and a fellowship in gastroenterology – hepatology and nutrition at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Before joining the Center for Digestive Health, Dr. Lopez served as chief of gastroenterology at the Orlando VA Medical Center and the Orlando Regional Medical Center. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine – Gastroenterology Board, and she is active with the American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Outside of work, Dr. Lopez is a proud mother of two sons soon to be college students. She enjoys listening to Gospel music, traveling, volunteering with the Manos de Compasion, and spending time with her 76-year-old mother and 78-year-old father. A two-time cancer survivor, she is currently recovering from hip surgery. When she retires, she looks forward to returning to Puerto Rico to work there part-time.
