Eiichi Jumawan Teaches the Sweet Science of Boxing at Pearlside Boxing Inc.

    KAPOLEI, HI, January 16, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eiichi Jumawan has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A renowned boxing champion, Eiichi Jumawan has evolved into a distinguished athlete and entrepreneur throughout his 45-year career. Notably, he is a two-time national boxing champion, six-time Hawaii state boxing champion and a five-time Hawaii Golden Gloves champion, having held the title between 1975 and 1980.

Originally hailing from Japan, Mr. Jumawan started boxing at nine years old, noting he grew up training in recreation centers and various gyms. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in health and physical education from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1980, during which time he contributed as a member of Team USA from 1977 to 1980. Following his graduation, he served as the Hawaii chief of officials for USA Boxing Inc. from 1985 to 2011 and simultaneously worked as a sales agent for New York Life Insurance Co. between 1984 and 2009. In addition, Mr. Jumawan served as the chief of officials for Amateur Boxing of Hawaii from 2011 to 2016.

Looking to utilize his skill further to train other potential and current athletes in boxing, Mr. Jumawan spearheaded the Pearlside Boxing Gym as the president, owner and coach in 1997. Through his business, he strives to help burgeoning young boxers attain grants and donations to support their goals. Likewise, his expertise resides in instructing children in fitness and boxing, as well as providing classes for people with Parkinson's disease to help them cope with their condition.

Mr. Jumawan's passion for boxing became even more personal when his wife was diagnosed with a neurological illness that affected her motor skills. As he helped her through physical therapy, he realized he could utilize techniques used in boxing training to help her progress. At this time, Mr. Jumawan became involved with Rock Steady Boxing, a training program intended for personal trainers, physical therapists, rehab facilities, boxing coaches and others who want to help people in their community fight Parkinson's disease. In 2019, he became Rock Steady Certified and has found great fulfillment and success using boxing principles to help people living with Parkinson's disease.

In addition, Mr. Jumawan has also served as a referee and judge for amateur and professional boxing. Currently, he is recognized as the only Silver Level Coach in Hawaii and is also a Bronze Coach Clinician, traveling the country teaching "Bronze Level Clinics" for USA Boxing.

Due to his work with a diverse range of people, Mr. Jumawan has long been dedicated not only to improving himself but to those under his tutelage, as well. From his lifelong experiences in boxing, he believes it is most important to give back to the program that he gained so much. In accounting for his success, he credits his ability to serve as an effective and capable leader, as well as an inspiring role model.

Reflecting upon his career trajectory, Mr. Jumawan considers his representation of the United States in the Olympic-style boxing competition at the 1978 men's world championships, in which he traveled to East Germany, Yugoslavia and Indonesia, as a career highlight. Looking ahead, he plans to continue teaching, mentoring and training boxing students of all ages for many years to come.
