In this capacity, she works with high intensity cases in the intensive care unit and on the hospital floor, as well as more mild cases in nursing homes and in rehabilitative settings, reflecting a diverse array of experiences to her credit. Additionally, she serves as a locum intensivist with both the Jacobi Medical Center and the North Central Bronx Hospital, having previously worked as a locum hospitalist at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, New York, between 2017 and 2019. Drawing her inspiration from the experience of caring on behalf of her grandmother at age 13, Dr. Shahzadi has felt compelled to pursue a career in medicine and avail herself to humanity throughout the course of her life.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Dr. Shahzadi studied at the F.G. Sir Syed School for Girls in Pakistan, where she was bestowed with a Merit Scholarship Award and several gold medals for securing consistently high marks in the subjects of biology, chemistry, physics and social studies. Leveraging her scholarship funds toward a college education, she attained a Bachelor of Science at the FG Postgraduate College for Women in Rawalpindi, and a Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery from King Edward Medical University in Lahore. At the latter institution, Dr. Shahzadi won four gold medals in recognition of her performance in the subjects of clinical medicine, anatomy, ocular medicine and biochemistry.
Following this period, Dr. Shahzadi undertook a medical internship and passed her postgraduate FCPS examination on her first attempt, after which she served as a trainee in internal medicine and pediatrics at the Fauji Foundation Hospital in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. Traveling to the United States, she subsequently functioned as a clinical observer at the Brooklyn Hospital Center for several months before returning to Pakistan to work as a senior medical officer at Kulsum International Hospital in Islamabad, where she specialized in internal medicine. Upon the conclusion of her duties there, she began her residency in internal medicine at the Brooklyn Hospital Center in 2013, where she was distinguished with a Service Excellence Award in 2016. Upon the conclusion of her residency, Dr. Shahzadi took on fellowships in pulmonology and critical care at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, respectively.
A prolific scholar, Dr. Shahzadi has written several well-regarded abstracts, such as "The Utilization and Complications of Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy in a Community Hospital" at the SCCM Critical Care Congress of 2019 in San Diego, "Utility of Routine 24 Hours Post TPA CT Scan and Neuroimaging in Patients with Ischemic Stroke" at the CHEST Annual Meeting of 2018 in San Antonio, "Overutilization of CT Angio Chest to Rule Out Pulmonary Embolism, Can Pisa Model Used as the Pre-Probability Criteria?" before the American Thoracic Society (ATS) in 2018 in San Diego and "Inappropriate Utilization of Portable Chest Radiography in Diagnosis and Treatment of Cardiopulmonary Disease" before the ATS in 2017 in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Shahzadi has also authored a great number of case reports that have been presented at the aforementioned conferences, such as "TB or Not TB," "A Perplexing Case of Mediastinal HTLV-1 Lymphoma Masquerading as Tuberculosis" and "History is an Art: Birds Can Be Responsible for Chronic Cough." Furthermore, she has delivered various poster presentations at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, including on Scholar's Day in 2016 and before the Division of Pulmonary Disease, for which she received an award in 2015. Notably, Dr. Shahzadi's research findings have been extensively cited by many of her colleagues, and she enjoys a score of 25.99 on ResearchGate, a networking website for scientists and researchers.
To remain aware of developments in the field, Dr. Shahzadi maintains her affiliation with several organizations relevant to her interests. Among them, she is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the Association of Pakistani Physician of North America and the ATS, which recognized her excellent work in the field with an ATS Award in 2018.
With the Valley Medical Group, Dr. Shahzadi has stood on the forefront of the battle against COVID-19, treating thousands of patients and working in a multitude of clinical settings. For her accomplishments in this regard, she was distinguished as a Top Doctor in New Jersey in 2021. Outside of her vocational circles, Dr. Shahzadi partakes in such avocations as reading literature, writing poetry, stage acting and traveling abroad.
