Also with Scripps, Dr. Ellis has served as the head of the Division of Obstetrics and has been on the Clinical Board of Governors, Scripps Clinic & Research Foundation, Board of Directors, Scripps Clinic Medical Group, and Medical Director, Scripps Clinic San Marcos. In her capacity as head of the Division of Obstetrics, she implemented a hospitalist program for OB/GYN emergency room call coverage. Dr. Ellis served in the United States Naval Reserves for 20 years in a variety of roles, from chief resident to the rank of Captain, Medical Corps, including Director of Surgical Services, Director of Medical Services, and Consultant to the Commanding Officer at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree, special honors program, Plan II, from the University of Texas, Austin. She then earned her doctoral degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (Medicine, Fort Worth).
Upon completion of her doctoral degree, Dr. Ellis fulfilled a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Naval Regional Medical Center, Balboa, and a chief residency at the Navy Regional Medical Center. She earned certification through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Motivated to remain current with industry trends, Dr. Ellis maintains membership with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine, and the New York Academy of Sciences, to name a few.
In recognition of her professional efforts, Dr. Ellis won a Teaching Award from Camp Pendleton, was honored as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America by the New York Academy of Sciences, and was listed in the 17th edition of Who's Who of American Women in 1991-1992. Additionally, for her commitment to service and standards of excellence, Dr. Ellis was given the William & Ruth Black Employee Achievement Award from Scripps Clinic Medical Group. She is also a senior consultant honored by the Scripps Clinic Medical Group. Over the years, she has contributed much to her field of expertise.
When she is not caring for patients, she stays busy with a diverse range of hobbies that help her to continually learn and meet new people. From her travels to Paris, to her love of music, ballet and sports, she takes time to enjoy life and the simple things it has to offer. To add to her diverse list of hobbies, she has her own signature fragrance, which she would eventually like to market and donate all proceeds to preventing preeclampsia.
