Before attaining these positions, he served as the deputy chief of police for the Township of North Bergen Police Department rising up through the ranks over a career of 25 years. Mr. Sanzari has likewise worked in property management for Manhattan Apartments, Inc. senior account executive for United Way of New York City, and as a chief clerk for the Hudson County Surrogate Court.
After completing coursework at Bergen Community College, Mr. Sanzari went on to earn a bachelor's degree in media arts with a minor in English from Jersey City State College. He most recently achieved a master's degree in criminal justice from New Jersey City University, and is notable for revisiting higher education at the age of 50. Mr. Sanzari was the recipient of the National Merit Award as given by the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials in 2017 and 2022. He successfully completed the public housing executive director continuing education program at Rutgers University and has been recognized for his fundraising contributions to the New Jersey Special Olympics. Notably, Mr. Sanzari was named an ambassador to the Italian American Museum in New York City by the Italian Board of Guardians in 2021.
In addition to his occupational endeavors, Mr. Sanzari has maintained involvement with the American Diabetes Association, the New Jersey Community Food Bank, the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the American Red Cross, as well as many local and numerous Catholic charities. Determined to approach his career with compassion for others, he is particularly proud of his work as a police administrator and as executive director for the North Bergen Housing Authority. Attributing his professional success to his fair treatment of others and problem solving skills, Mr. Sanzari believes everyone deserves a safe satisfactory place to live and applies this attitude to his professional goals.
