Driven by the idea of working in a hands-on environment that caters to others, Mrs. Saddlemire spent 15 years in the health care industry working as a Physical Therapist Assistant. However, after finding herself burnt out, she began exploring her options. Relying on her passion and natural abilities in photography and art, Mrs. Saddlemire founded Artography by R&D in 2015 along with her wife and partner Diana Saddlemire.
Having developed an extensive clientele since her company's founding, Mrs. Saddlemire typically performs photo shoots twice per day, especially during the busy summer months. As a digital photographer, she specializes in weddings, typically shooting an average of two per week. Her diverse background also includes shooting various types of family celebrations, seniors, couples, portraits, and more. Striving to always provide unmatched service coupled with high-quality images, Mrs. Saddlemire enjoys the reward of playing an integral role in her clients' most memorable moments, her company's motto and personal mantra being "you start as clients, hang out like friends and part as family".
A self-taught photographer, Mrs. Saddlemire first began experimenting with her father's 35mm camera when she was a teenager. Although her career led her in a different direction after high school, she eventually purchased a digital camera and began practicing again. She even sold several of her custom prints. Finding inspiration in perfecting her craft and creating beauty through photographs, Mrs. Saddlemire slowly changed the trajectory of her career, leaving health care behind and following her passion for photography.
Apart from overseeing her successful photography business, Mrs. Saddlemire has become sought-after for her vibrant and colorful abstract artwork. In addition to selling several pieces of her work, Mrs. Saddlemire has in the past been commissioned to paint a landscape of an island for a client who honeymooned there.
Ms. Saddlemire was a physical therapist assistant who worked for various outpatient facilities, skilled nursing facilities, and local hospitals where she provided rehabilitation services mostly to middle-aged and elderly patients. Mrs. Saddlemire also spent the last two years of her PTA career as a rehabilitation director at Spring Arbor of the Outer Banks before leaving the industry and focusing solely on Artography by R&D.
Looking toward the future, Mrs. Saddlemire aims to begin teaching photography classes to share her knowledge and techniques with others. She also aspires to create a dedicated studio where she can work offering focused portrait sessions and fine art photography as well as display her finished pieces for sale. Mrs. Saddlemire is already in the process of renovating the downstairs of her home so that she can have dedicated backdrops to shoot family and portrait-style photographs indoors.
Ms. Saddlemire studied at Broome Community College where she acquired an associate's degree in liberal arts in 2001 and a second associate's degree as a physical therapist assistant in 2007. Most recently, she has taken coursework toward a bachelor's degree in psychology. To remain abreast in her current industry, Mrs. Saddlemire is a member of the Professional Photographers Association and Flash Masters.
Highlighting her accomplishments, one piece of work was featured by GuruShots in Israel. More impressively, her photos were featured in an article by People magazine in November 2022 after photographing a couple and their family. The mother and father, married 37 years, had been in a horrific motorcycle accident on Father's Day, suffering severe injuries. The family's father was in a coma for 11 days and woke with memory loss. Mrs. Saddlemire was fortunate to be able to shoot the husband and wife's vow renewals after he had gained most of his memory back. The story and her photographs, which went viral, also became the subjects of numerous news shows, including Good Morning America and The Drew Barrymore Show.
Mrs. Saddlemire continues to love learning and growing with her business and strives to continue to "capture the world one shot at a time".
