Now retired from academia after more than 50 years in the classroom, Dr. Farber remains a prominent legal educational consultant as the chief executive officer of Far Horizons Educational and Legal Consultants LLC. Based in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, he has been serving as both a legal consultant and education expert to clients, both defendants and plaintiffs, since 2001.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Farber has been specializing in negligence/liability from pre-school through high school by providing clients with detailed reports and testimony that are backed by extensive research. He also provides deposition questions, site visits/forensics, document and discovery analysis, and other services. Because of his thorough work, most of Dr. Farber's cases are settled out of court. Among a myriad of cases, he specializes in putting together detailed evidence regarding sexual assault between student and teacher or student and student, bullying, harassment, intimidation, wrongful death, and more, as well as litigation involving assault, sports, school trips/transportation, and duty of care. Dr. Farber has notably been involved in cases throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Kansas, Missouri, and California.
A professor emeritus at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, Dr. Farber taught an array of courses in the department of education between 1972 and 2015 before subsequently being named a professor emeritus. A field that he always wanted to become involved with, he elected to remain in the classroom as a college educator throughout his distinguished tenure as opposed to becoming a school superintendent, despite having completed higher education in administration. Preparing future teachers and administrators, in a teaching capacity was always very rewarding for Dr. Farber. Besides teaching, he chaired the department of educational administration and secondary education from 1985 to 2006 and was a graduate program supervisor between 1984 to 2004.
Prior to being recruited by The College of New Jersey, Dr. Farber taught honors and college board history at Trenton Public School District in Trenton, New Jersey, from 1964 to 1968 and was an instructor of education and history at Rider College (now Rider University) in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, between 1968 and 1969. Aside from his full-time teaching commitments, Dr. Farber was an assistant professor of history at Bucks County Community College from 1968 to 1987 and a professor of education and social science and coordinator of the education assistant program at Mercer County Community College between 1971 and 1998. Dr. Farber was also involved in educational testing with several professional organizations including the Educational Testing Service.
Published several times in scholarly journals such as the International Schools Journal and the Journal of Critical Inquiry Into Curriculum, Dr. Farber contributed articles on such topics as teacher attrition and retention, instructional success, and gaming strategies that impact learning. He also served on the editorial advisory board for the aforementioned Journal of Critical Inquiry Into Curriculum in 2002 and the International Journal of Curriculum Inquiry in 2007, served as a reviewer for several education publishers like Prentice Hall, and was the reviewer for the fifth edition of the book "School Law and the Public Schools" in 2008. Dr. Farber also conducted numerous workshops and participated in conferences and presentations throughout his career in such countries as Poland, Croatia, Dubai, Italy, Spain, Latvia, Thailand, Cyprus, Germany, Great Britain and Israel.
Dr. Farber possesses a rich educational background, including a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science from Pennsylvania State University in 1964 and both a Master of Education in educational leadership and administration and a Doctor of Education in educational leadership from Temple University in 1968 and 1973, respectively. He also had the opportunity to complete postdoctoral studies in renaissance history and sociology in 1981 at Princeton University. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Farber's credit include certification in the state of New Jersey as a teacher of social studies in grades K-12, supervisor, principal, and school superintendent, and certification as an assessor through the National Association of Secondary School Principals. More recently, he completed continuing education in law and harassment, intimidation and bullying.
A former member of several industry-related organizations, Dr. Farber presently remains affiliated with Kappa Delta Pi since 1994. And Phi Delta Kappa since 1970. Honoring his many contributions, he has received citations and letters of commendation from former President Bill Clinton and the late Colin Powell for an award-winning secondary summer academic enrichment program (demonstration school) that he directed between 1972 and 2002 that was awarded three legislative citations. He was also Project Director/Principal for a State of New Jersey Demonstration Adult Education Learning Center 1972-2001.
