As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A wine maker and entrepreneur, Mr. Garner is the owner of Rush Wines, a Birmingham-based distributor of limited-production wines from independently owned wineries around the world. Founded in 2002, Rush Wines seeks to promote wine awareness in Alabama by bringing some of the world's finest wines to local markets. The company is also involved in the production of its own private-label series, making eight different wines in close collaboration with winemaking partners.
Among Mr. Garner's other endeavors are Rush Wines Distribution Company and Rush Properties LLC, through which he is involved in all parts of the wine business, from manufacturing to distribution. He consults with restaurants about their wine programs, with retail stores about the selections they carry, and with winemakers about winemaking techniques. He also oversees the logistics necessary to ship wines from California and import them from Europe and other parts of the world, then supply them throughout Alabama. He manages a team of 14 individuals spread throughout the state that handles daily distribution.
Born and raised in Alabama, Mr. Garner was exposed to the world of fine wine and gourmet food by his late grandfather, Paul Garner. He had the opportunity to travel and taste Spanish, French, Italian, German and Austrian wines with various local cuisine. Ultimately, he wanted to recreate that experience at home, which led him to not only import wine but also create wine for Alabama wine drinkers.
Mr. Garner has received recognition in Wine Spectator and several local magazines and newspapers. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Alabama. In the near future, Mr. Garner hopes to find a distribution partner in other states for his Rush Cellars brand. In addition, he would like to publish a professional diary that he wrote last year, which covers his entire career in the wine business from 1997 to 2021.
