Drawing on nearly 40 years of expertise in the creative arts, Ms. Tresnowski is recognized for her contributions as an art teacher and liaison for the fine arts department of North Chicago School District 187. In her role, she is part of the school district's leadership team and provides recommendations regarding academics and the socio-emotional development of students. She is also involved with planning and executing after-school activities that include theater and art clubs. As a teacher, Ms. Tresnowski believes that she is responsible for assisting students to channel creativity; this is something she considers to be a great privilege. Ms. Tresnowski's success in the field was born of her academic journey. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design, intaglio printmaking and art education from the University of Michigan and a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction from National Louis University. She also holds an Illinois teaching certification for K-12 art education, LBS1 studies for special education and teaching from Lewis University, and certification in classical and ancient studies from the University of Chicago Graham School.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Tresnowski held numerous positions outside of the teaching profession. She served as the principal of Judy Tresnowski Art & Design, as well as the design and marketing director of Northpoint Horizons. Additionally, she was the supervising designer of Harcourt Achieve in Austin, TX, the senior designer for Scott Foresman & Pearson Education, and a senior designer for Ligature – Chicago and Publications International Ltd. Moreover, she was a graphic designer and art director for Corporate Graphics International in NYC, a designer for Fidelity Investments, and a graphic designer for Filene's department store in Boston.
Ms. Tresnowski attributes her success to the support of her father and mother, who instilled in all of their children a sense of determination, responsibility, competitiveness and discipline. In addition, both of her parents made sure that their children were mindful of those who were struggling and encouraged them to give back to the community in meaningful ways. As a result of her upbringing, activism at the local level is at the core of Ms. Tresnowski's life.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Tresnowski aims to retire from the school district and support herself through the sale of her artwork (website: judytresnowski.com). She is also entertaining the idea of creating a clothing line that highlights her unique style. She wishes to create a college-level course based on her philosophy of creative problem-solving and potentially write a book that speaks to this philosophy at greater length. Outside of work, she enjoys cross-country skiing, kayaking and other outdoor sports — hobbies she looks forward to pursuing in her retirement.
