A skilled endocrinologist with more than three decades of clinical experience, Dr. Fertig is the Founder & President of the Diabetes & Osteoporosis Center in Piscataway, New Jersey. Similarly, he channels his considerable knowledge into senior attending roles at Somerset Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and Hackensack Meridian Health's JFK Medical Center. Dr. Fertig is currently Chairman of the Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology, Hackensack Meridian Health at JFK University Medical Center since 2010 and holds positions as clinical Associate Professor at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and academic Associate Professor at Hackensack Meridian Health Medical School. Over the years, Dr. Fertig has also gained valuable expertise in education serving as both teaching and administrative chief resident at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, where he also served as clinical instructor for The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Through these positions, Dr. Fertig has instilled knowledge and teachings to medical students and residents from RWJMS, JFKUMC and Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center.
Driven to remain abreast of industry changes, Dr. Fertig aligns himself with The American College of Endocrinology, The Endocrine Society, and The New Jersey Biological Society. Throughout his career, he has authored a number of publications, including his two-volume book series "Metabolism & Medicine." Within the first volume, he dives into the topic of chronic diseases of aging and the effect on metabolism, as well as the introduction to a medical model called the Physiological Fitness Landscape. In the second volume, he delves into chronic diseases, metabolism, stress, and more in a more clinically-oriented fashion. In addition to the above books, Dr. Fertig has authored book chapters, including the NIH Sponsored book, Diabetes in America, Chapter "Therapy of Diabetes," journals and many web articles, such as "Is Metabolism the Cause of Disease?" and "A Stress Remedy that Works." He also has an upcoming book written with Deepak Chopra and Jack Tuszynski, "Quantum Body: The Next Revolution in Well-Being." Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, he has also been a featured guest speaker at various conferences around the world.
An expert in his field, Dr. Fertig holds his doctoral degree in medicine through St. George University's School of Medicine. Additionally, he has held internship and residency positions in Internal Medicine through Seton Hall University's School of Graduate Medical Education at St. Elizabeth Hospital with further accreditations at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, as well as fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Medicine, and Tulane University's School of Medicine. Outside of his work, he has dedicated himself to others including through the NY Giants Organization for Community Activism, where he spearheaded an effort to prevent the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center from closing.
