HUNT, TX, January 24, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jack "Triple" Nickel has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
As a child, Mr. Nickel dreamt of becoming a pilot. Growing up, he carried that desire with him until he was able to obtain his private pilot's license at the age of 18. During the Vietnam War, he joined the US Air Force upon graduation from college. He flew as a combat-ready fighter pilot in five different high-performance fighter jets between 1972 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1997; one of the fighter jets was while performing his duties as an aggressor pilot out of Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Nickel served as a wing commander and squadron commander during his 25 years of service, and for 20 years, Mr. Nickel also parlayed his expertise in the field to others as a pilot instructor in the Air Force.
Backed by years of expertise in aerospace, avionics, and more, Mr. Nickel worked as a research pilot and instructor pilot for NASA's Johnson Space Center between 1989 and his retirement in 2011. Throughout his career, he has also spoken at various astronomy clubs due to his considerable experience. An expert in his field, Mr. Nickel holds a Bachelor of Science in industrial technology and plant design through the California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, which he earned in 1972.
Over the years, Mr. Nickel won a Meritorious Service Medal, four Achievement Medals, and an Outstanding Performance Award through the U.S. Air Force. Likewise, he was honored as Top 3 in his Pilot Training Class. Although his career was filled with standout moments, his greatest honor was having the Asteroid 14511 Nickel named after him by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. His most notable experience was when he flew the 747 for NASA and carried the shuttle Atlantis back to Kennedy Space Center. The cornerstone of his success lay in his calm nature and ability to learn quickly. In the coming years, Mr. Nickel aims to enjoy his retirement.
