After a distinguished career in medicine and academia, Dr. Prada founded the Nutrition Emphasis Center PLLC in Rochester, Michigan, in 2009. Seeking to promote the importance of nutrition in society, which he believes is essential, Dr. Prada is presently in the process of expanding operations so that he can offer services to more individuals in need.
Dr. Prada was previously affiliated with the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center as a faculty member in the division of neonatology and the Bone Research Center. He subsequently became a faculty member and the director of clinical research in the college of medicine, department of obstetrics and gynecology, at the University of Cincinnati where he spent 25 years focusing on nutritional, cardiovascular, and disease prevention research. During his years on campus, Dr. Prada also served on several professional committees and chaired the human relations committee faculty senate. During an earlier stage of his career, Dr. Prada practiced medicine in his home country of Columbia between 1979 and 1980.
Apart from his primary career endeavors, Dr. Prada served as a consultant on behalf of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on the topics of genetics and the environment in premature and low birth weight infants, with much of the emphasis placed on racial/ethnic minorities. Dr. Prada also consulted for the International Dietary Energy Consultancy Group on the biological mechanisms of environmentally induced causes of intrauterine growth retardation.
As a seasoned researcher in the medical field, Dr. Prada was a principal investigator for numerous nutritional clinical trials with the support of the NIH where he concentrated his studies on the effects that micronutrients have in preventing disease in predominantly high-risk populations. He notably disseminated his findings by publishing numerous scholarly articles in medical journals. Additionally, Dr. Prada authored various teaching materials for students studying medicine and nutrition. In addition to his documented work, he has spoken publicly at several professional symposiums and workshops and has conducted numerous scientific presentations throughout the U.S.
After earning his undergraduate degree, Dr. Prada continued his studies, receiving a Doctor of Medicine at the National University of Colombia. He also completed an internship at the Central Military Hospital in Columbia, followed by a residency in psychiatry, obstetrics, and gynecology at the Regional General Hospital in Columbia and a second residency in emergency medicine at the Bucaramanga Clinic. Moreover, Dr. Prada completed several postdoctoral research fellowships in hypertension at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and perinatology and nutrition at the University of Cincinnati. In 2006, he received board certification as a clinical nutrition specialist. Dr. Prada speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.
As a part of his professional commitments, Dr. Prada is active as a member of the American Society of Hypertension, the American Society for Nutrition, the American Heart Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Canadian Nutrition Society. He is also recognized as an elected fellow of the American College of Nutrition.
Highlighting his accomplishments, Dr. Prada was honored with a Service Award from the University of Cincinnati in 1992. He was previously recognized as Best Intern of the Year by Central Military Hospital in 1978.
