Through more than 25 years of excellence in sports medicine and orthopedics, Dr. Kremchek is recognized as a leading orthopedic surgeon who is the co-founder of Beacon Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Cincinnati. Since 1996, he has focused his skills and expertise on providing care for youth, high school, amateur, college and professional athletes. Beacon has successfully evolved and grown into a one-stop shop providing comprehensive care, comprising more than 100 physicians dedicated to all aspects of musculoskeletal medicine for the community, along with ways to improve and make lives better.
In addition, Dr. Kremchek founded the Beacon Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship and has served as its director since 2008.
Dr. Kremchek is known and respected throughout Greater Cincinnati for the care that he provides local professional, collegiate and high school sports teams and athletes. For 26 years he has served as the chief orthopedic surgeon and medical director for The Cincinnati Reds. Dr. Kremchek is continuing his role with the Reds as a senior consultant and orthopaedic surgeon. And he continues to provide care to many professional players on teams throughout Major League Baseball.
Since 1993, he has served as the chief orthopedic surgeon for his alma mater Wittenberg University. He is a senior orthopedic consultant for Morehead State University and is a team physician and chief orthopedic surgeon for Wilmington College. From 1993 to 2010, he was the medical director and team orthopedic surgeon for The Cincinnati Cyclones professional hockey team.
Education is vastly important to Dr. Kremchek and he dedicates much of his charitable and philanthropic efforts to area schools, and ways to impact healthcare through value, quality, access, and experience overall.
In 2021, he donated the majority of funds for construction of the first baseball stadium in school history to Archbishop Moeller High School, to honor his father who was Medical Director there for many years. He contributes thousands of dollars of athletic equipment and clothing annually to several schools and has established an athletic training facility at Wittenberg. Dr. Kremchek provides pro bono medical care primarily for older adults as well as for underprivileged young athletes at 12 area high schools and two colleges. In 2002, he and his wife created a scholarship in the name of his father, Edward J. Kremchek, MD.
Dr. Kremchek earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Wittenberg University - where he played baseball - in 1981 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 1986. He completed a residency in general surgery at UC's College of Medicine and a four-year training program in orthopedics at Tufts University in Boston.
Dr. Kremchek then completed a fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Birmingham, Ala., in 1993 under the mentorship of esteemed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. Today, Dr. Kremchek is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and holds a subspeciality certificate in orthopedic sports medicine.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Kremchek is proud to have been honored with a Good Samaritan Hospital Research Award in 1988. He is a member of the Hall of Fame of Moeller High School in Cincinnati. Kremchek's father became Moeller's first team physician in 1968 and served the school until he passed away in 1995. Dr. Kremchek worked with his father for two years before his passing and has been Moeller's team physician ever since.
In 2004 he received the 1914 Award for Distinguished Alumni from Wittenberg University, where he is also a member of the Wittenberg Hall of Fame for his work in sports medicine. Kremchek received the Tom Roebel Fellowship Award from Roger Bacon High School in 2010 and in 2011 was named the Ohio Team Physician of the Year by the Ohio High School Athletic Trainers Association.
Dr. Kremchek was listed on the Top 5 Super Surgeons by Baseball Prospectus in 2010 and in 2011 was named an Ohio High School Outstanding Team Physician by the Ohio State Medical Association Joint Advisory Committee on Sports Medicine.
An outstanding writer and prolific commentator, Dr. Kremchek has been published in numerous professional journals on orthopedics and sports medicine and has been featured in a variety of national media outlets, including USA Today, ESPN Magazine, The Athletic and Sports Illustrated. He was named one of the Top 10 Super Surgeons of Major League Baseball in 2016 and added to the Top 10 MLB Surgeons by Bleacher Report.
Dr. Kremchek has no plans for retirement. He intends to continue training and educating fellows in orthopedic medicine, allowing them to understand the infectious aspects of the field and guide them into becoming conscientious physicians. He aspires to pass on his passion for giving back to the community as well and various outreach, education, service initiatives, OrthoAlliance/Beacon's Foundation and Lab, and additional opportunities - with the ultimate goal of meeting the needs of the region during a time of fragmented healthcare.
