Prior to his current role, he was Chief Financial Officer, Chief Investment Officer and Treasurer at the Bainum Family Foundation from 2014-2019, where he led a team in repositioning the operating private foundation from a $200M small business operation to a $600M multi-faceted innovation operation. Prior to this, he was the Founding Chief Financial Officer, Chief Investment Officer and Treasurer for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation from 2001 to 2014, a grant making foundation, where he managed the $700M investment portfolio and the financial and administrative functions of the foundation. He was instrumental in developing the foundation's strategic plan, its policies, systems and infrastructure, its investment portfolio and all administrative functions. Birmingham also served as Director of Treasury Operations for The Freedom Forum, a private foundation and controller for Gannett/USA Today Network.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Birmingham earned a bachelor's degree in economics from St. Lawrence University and attained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Rochester's Simon Business School. Among his professional accomplishments, he was listed as one of the Top 30 Foundation Chief Investment Officers in 2018 and spent more than a decade serving as a member of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Finance Committee for Skillsource Group, Inc from 2004 to 2019.
