However, Dr. Hovhannisyan also occasionally features artwork of Latin American and East Asian descent. A widow who was once married to an artist, Dr. Hovhannisyan has been collecting art for most of her life. Becoming inspired to open her art gallery, she sought to prove to her father, who was a famous journalist, that she could successfully launch a gallery and earn a good living doing so. Very grateful for the opportunity, Dr. Hovhannisyan is especially proud of her ability to continually connect and contribute to the art world, while also advocating the value and importance of art and art collecting. Her online magazine The Art of Collecting is one of her most important professional contribution to promote art and collecting, sharing her personal and professional observations, along with many experienced and knowledgeable intellectual contributors from all over the world.
Among other noteworthy roles, Dr. Hovhannisyan began serving as a curriculum developer at Middlebury Institute of International Studies (formerly Monterey Institute of International Studies) in Monterey, California, in 1992. She has also served as an art judge and has lectured at various institutions. As an author, Dr. Hovhannisyan has published more than 140 literary studies and articles, as well as numerous works of poetry and books that have since become a standard resource for master's and doctoral-level papers, especially by those who are studying Armenian literature. Moreover, Dr. Hovhannisyan received the title of candidate of philological sciences for her study of the book "Love Songs" by Vahan Tekeyan of Armenia in 1995.
Dr. Hovhannisyan, who notably emigrated from Armenia to the U.S. with her parents, has been greatly influenced by her culture through her work. Recognizing her contributions, she was included in a feature article in a 2015 edition of Armenians Today. Dr. Hovhannisyan was also named an ambassador of mother culture and language by the Country of Armenia and was elected to serve as the 27th member of the special committee of the ministry of the diaspora of the Republic of Armenia.
Dr. Hovhannisyan was a member of the U.S. Congress Business Advisory Council from California. She graduated from Yerevan State University in Armenia with a master's degree in philology. She subsequently studied at the Armenia National Academy of Science where she acquired a Doctor of Philosophy in philology.
Honoring her accomplishments, Dr. Hovhannisyan was recognized as an Influential Business Woman in the Regional Art Scene and was the recipient of the Ronald Reagan Gold Medal. Dr. Hovhannisyan was also recognized when a female-focused educational foundation at the American University in Armenia, a branch of the University of California at Los Angeles, was named in her honor.
